The best yarn in India and ones to avoid
As a crocheter in India, finding good yarn shouldn’t feel like detective work. But between overpriced imports , mislabeled skeins and popular brands that are scams, it’s easy to get fooled. Here’s the truth — from someone who’s been crocheted, swatched, and stitched through it all.
Yarns Worth Buying (and Why)
1. Nestnhaven
-
Soft, crisp, true to label
-
Huge variety for whatever you need
-
Price: ₹180-₹190 for real 100g skeins
2. Magic Needles Yarns
-
Wide variety: velvet, cotton, acrylic, gradient cakes
-
What you see is what you get and has incredible quality
-
Ships fast, good support
3. Ganga / Vardhman (in stores only)
-
Good quality but not ideal online due to mislabeling (a lot of mislabeling happens online , be careful fellow crafters!)
-
Vardhman weight inconsistency is a big issue in online shopping but is very good quality
Ganga is one of my favourite yarns and not a lot of mislabeling happens.
❌ Yarns to Avoid (And Why They’re Overhyped)
1. Himalaya Dolphin Baby
-
Overpriced at almost ₹12,000 for 5 skeins!
-
Quality is average at best
-
Massive influencer hype, not worth it
2. Oswal
-
Cheap for a reason
-
Tiny skeins, poor twist, rough texture , pilling is very common
-
Good for trying out a new stitch before using good quality yarn as they are only around ₹50
3. Anchor Knitting Cotton
-
Too expensive for its quality
-
Better mercerised cottons exist (cheaper too!)
4. Amazon Sellers (non-official)
-
Fake weight labels
-
Misleading photos
-
You often get thread instead of yarn
- Looks cheap at ₹89 per skein but each skein is 50 grams
- That means it is actually very expensive and since you are doubling your cart , there is higher shipping and slower processing
